ABOUT US
Coach Angie, a former Venezuelan Women’s National Team player and Columbia College Hall of Fame inductee.
An Athletic Journey Built on Resilience, Excellence, and Legacy
Early Beginnings in Venezuela
Angie Molina was born in Venezuela, where she began to stand out in volleyball from a very young age. At the age of 13, she was selected to represent her home state of Barinas, marking the beginning of an exceptional athletic career.
In 1995, at just 13 years old, she began a structured and specialized training process as a middle blocker, committing herself to an intense, disciplined, and consistent development path. This early commitment laid the foundation for a demanding and long term high performance career.
First Steps on the International Stage
In 1998, Coach Angie was selected for the Venezuelan National Youth Team and competed in her first South American Championship, marking her first international experience.
From that point forward, she received elite, high performance training and quickly emerged as one of the top middle blockers of her generation within the national team system. While still very young, she advanced to the junior national team, where she further consolidated her performance and proudly represented Venezuela in two Junior World Championships, confirming her international projection and competitive level.
Senior National Team and International Recognition
Following this developmental process, Coach Angie became a member of the Venezuelan Senior National Team. During this stage, she established a strong and dominant playing style characterized by a powerful, consistent, and well structured block, combined with an effective and difficult to stop attack.
Through her performance, leadership, and commitment on the court, she became one of the most outstanding middle blockers in the country. In 2001, she received an official recognition from the Venezuelan Volleyball Federation, honoring her hard work, discipline, and athletic achievements. During that same period, at 19 years old, she was recognized as Best Blocker in international senior level competitions, solidifying her status as one of the top middle blockers of her era in Venezuela.
The Collegiate Chapter: Columbia College
As part of her athletic career, Coach Angie went through the recruiting process that led her to compete at the collegiate level during the 2000 season at Columbia College, located in Columbia, MO, Missouri.
During her freshman year, she made an immediate impact and was recognized as Freshman of the Year, standing out for her performance, consistency, and contribution to the team.
Adversity and Early Retirement
Upon entering the collegiate stage, Coach Angie was already facing significant physical challenges, as her knees had undergone three prior surgeries due to years of high level competitive demands.
Despite these challenges, she continued competing at the highest level. However, the accumulation of injuries ultimately limited her ability to sustain elite competition, leading to an early retirement from playing during that stage of her career.
A Remarkable Return to High Performance
In 2014, following an extensive recovery, strengthening, and physical reconditioning process, Coach Angie successfully returned to high level competition by joining the Venezuelan Professional League.
Once again, she performed at an elite level, demonstrating resilience, consistency, and physical strength, reaffirming her deep understanding of both her body and the demands of the sport.
Final Retirement and Hall of Fame Induction
In 2018, after a new complication in one of her knees, Coach Angie made the definitive decision to retire from competitive play, prioritizing her health and transitioning into a new phase within the sport.
That same year, she was inducted into the Columbia College Hall of Fame together with her team, a distinction reserved for elite athletes and teams who have left a lasting mark on the institution’s history.
A Global Perspective on Volleyball
Beyond her playing career, Coach Angie has contributed to the development of volleyball for more than 20 years. She brings extensive international experience, having lived 10 years in Greece, 5 years in Japan, and traveled to numerous countries.
Through these experiences, she gained deep technical, methodological, and cultural knowledge, which today shapes her holistic approach to athlete development.

Family, Leadership, and Legacy
On a personal level, Coach Angie is the mother of two daughters who are also deeply connected to volleyball. Hanna Gomez Molina is currently developing and growing as a young athlete, while Sofía Gomez Molina, 19 years old, is preparing and developing herself to contribute to the sport from a leadership and coaching perspective.
A Shared Journey
For more than 20 years, Coach Angie dedicated herself fully to her athletic career while also supporting and accompanying the professional journey of her husband, Olympic athlete Harry Gomez.
Throughout this shared path, Angie Molina has been a fundamental pillar in a journey built together, where both developed a deep and extensive international experience, traveling across many countries and growing not only athletically, but also culturally and personally.
